My favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco
I moved in to San Francisco a year ago and would like to share some insights from the neighborhoods that became my favorite ones.
Financial District/Embarcadero. I’ve been living here for a year and my favorite place so far is Ferry Building located on Embarcadero. Weekend farmer’s market offers tons of food choice from fresh oysters, home made ice cream to local creamery cheeses and California produced wine. The atmosphere there is unique: lots of tourists and locals, very lively and vibrant. If you step outside of the building you’ll experience street musicians, joggers, beautiful Bay bridge view, and ferries floating to neighbor towns like Tiburon, Sausalito, Oakland, and Vallejo. Also, you can take a walk at one of the Embarcadero piers and watch old fishers hunting for crabs and fish.
North Beach. Great neighborhood to eat at the daytime and explore at night. You’ll find a lot of Italian, Indian, and Chinese restaurants, confectioneries, and breakfast/brunch places. Relax at Washington Square park and enjoy the architecture of beautiful Saints Peter and Paul Church located right there. At the nighttime North Beach is perfect for those who love authentic bars and hidden gems.
Haight-Ashbury. Go there for small shops where you can find all kinds of unique things – Tibetan sound bowls, hippie style clothes, hand made jewelry. Streets of Haight-Ashbury are also good for checking out state of the art graffiti.
Japan Town. Visit Japan Town mall for Japanese souvenirs, kimonos, books, crazy photo booths to make funny photo collages with your friends, and try innovative dragon’s breath dessert made with liquid nitrogen that make you look like exhaling smoke while eating.
